In an exciting development for community health in Richmond, The Underground Kitchen Community First — better known as UGK Community First — has launched a new partnership with Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) Health that could change how our healthcare system tackles nutrition and chronic disease. This holiday season, the Massey Food Is Medicine initiative partnered with The Underground Kitchen (UGK) to deliver nourishing holiday meals directly to cancer patients experiencing the greatest food need. During the week of December 22nd, UGK volunteers distributed complimentary Christmas food boxes to active cancer patients residing in Richmond, Henrico, Hanover, and Chesterfield.

On November 24 and 25, the Food Is Medicine initiative partnered with The Underground Kitchen to deliver complimentary Thanksgiving food boxes to 60 cancer patients in active treatment experiencing the greatest food need across Richmond, Henrico, Chesterfield, and Hanover. Each box included fresh produce, recipe cards, and ingredients to prepare a meal that could feed a family of four for 2–4 days.
