Empowering VCU Massey Cancer Patients Through Nutrition

On June 25, 2025, Food is Medicine hosted Genentech at the VCU Massey Outpatient Pavilion. The event focused on nutrition's role in health, offering attendees insights from experts and meaningful discussions. It highlighted food as a vital component of well-being.

We were thrilled to welcome Tammy Johnston as our new Food is Medicine Administrative Assistant! On her first day, we took her to Feed More in Richmond, where she gained valuable insights into their operations. This experience provided her with a clear of our vital role in the larger food distribution. We're excited to have her as part of our team!

Participants in our nutrition education classes have enjoyed receiving fresh produce at the end of each session. Alongside a recipe from our chef, the vegetables included in the bag have encouraged everyone to try making the dish at home This initiative has provided a wonderful opportunity for participants to explore new flavors and enhance their culinary skills.
Cindy Avila, Senior Program Manager of Food is Medicine, spoke at the Capital One Richmond Campus during the Women in Tech & Innovation conference. She discussed how the program plans to use intelligence to create a meal plan and food resource for cancer patients, supporting the community. She was joined by other Massey colleagues who also shared their insights at the event.

Feed More has arrived at the VCU Massey Adult Outpatient Pavilion (1001 E. Leigh St) Loading Dock for its first delivery of 80 food boxes. This initiative aims to provide nutritious meals to those in need in our community. Together, we can make a positive impact!
