Happy New Year! As we step into 2025, I am thrilled to introduce MasseyFoodRx.com, a dedicated platform for our Food is Medicine initiatives. This site reflects our mission to improve health outcomes through nutrition. Here, you will find valuable insights into our team's efforts, current projects, and future plans. Our goal is to serve as a resource for both patients and healthcare providers.
Overview of MasseyFoodRx.com
MasseyFoodRx.com is designed to educate individuals seeking nutritional support while helping healthcare professionals who wish to refer patients. This website provides insight into our ongoing projects and highlights our collaboration with VCUHealth. We are excited to soon launch a "Food is Medicine" tab on the VCU Health website, developed together with Massey Communications.
Contacting Our Team
One of the standout features of MasseyFoodRx.com is the ease of communication. Our team can now be contacted via email at MasseyFoodRx@vcu.edu (note that this is not for medical inquiries).
Healthcare providers can quickly refer patients to our program through EPIC by sending.a staff message to "MasseyFoodRX". Once a referral is made, our team will follow up with patients via a phone call to connect them with food resources.
For any general inquiries, patients can reach out to Eliot Turoff, our Patient and Family Support Coordinator, at 804-828-8478. Eliot plays a crucial role in our mission by helping distribute food boxes and connecting patients with local food pantries through Unite Us.
Introducing the Food is Medicine Vouchers Program
I am especially excited to announce our new Food is Medicine Vouchers Program launched in partnership with Shalom Farms. This initiative allows patients to receive a food box and up to two $5 vouchers redeemable at Shalom Farm Mobile Markets throughout the Richmond area.
These mobile markets are invaluable, providing fresh, locally sourced, and nutritious food directly to neighborhoods. By improving access to healthy foods, we aim to enhance community health and empower residents to make nutritious choices more easily.
